Overview
National Prize for Open Research Data
Since 2023, the Academies of Sciences Switzerland have been awarding the National Prize for Open Research Data (ORD Prize). This is part of the Action Plan "Open Research Data" implemented by the Academies as part of the National Strategy for Open Research Data. This new prize aims to recognize researchers for innovative practices in the field of Open Research Data (ORD) and aims to promote the transition to open research practices. Open research data promotes transparency, reproducibility, and collaboration within the scientific community and allows society to benefit from scientific knowledge.
The ORD prize jury defined two focus areas for the 2024 competition:
Collaborative and/or interdisciplinary reuse of research data
Educational and/or outreach activities related to the reuse of research data.

27.11.2024 - Award Ceremony

ORD Prize Design Challenge
The icosahedron represents the various facets of Open Research with its numerous sides that unfold like a flower.
Within the core of the icosahedron, valuable data is depicted as a sphere that is disclosed to the world.
The flower does not symbolize the ultimate state, but rather the continuous journey towards genuine open research.
A few sides of the icosahedron remain closed, while others have already opened up significantly. This recognizes the multitude of steps undertaken by researchers in their pursuit of open research.
